How to pay your council tax

You will normally be required to pay your Council Tax in 10 instalments.  Payments should commence each year on the 1st day of April and run for 10 consecutive months.  The number of instalments actually given if being billed after the 1st of April equates to the number of complete months remaining in the year less one.  The amount and timing of instalments will be shown on the foot of your bill.

Although your Council Tax is normally payable in 10 instalments you have the right to request payment in 12 instalments.  If you would like to pay in 12 instalments then you must request this in writing and the request must be received by the Council by 15th April, however we recommend that you telephone us to discuss switching.

There are several methods of payment available:-

How to pay your council Tax

Direct Debit

DIRECT DEBIT- Make it easy - pay by Direct Debit

If you have a bank or building society account why not consider paying by direct debit. It is the cheapest and most convenient way to pay and is also the most cost effective method of collection for the Council.

If you do not already pay by direct debit and wish to do so, complete and return the Council Tax Direct Debit Mandate or alternatively take advantage of our paperless direct debit system by calling us on 01527 534040 and we can take your bank details over the phone.

There are 3 payment dates for Council Tax Direct Debit payers the 1st, 15th and 25th of each month
