Benefit Fraud
The Benefit Fraud Team is committed to the prevention,
detection and investigation of Housing and Council Tax Benefit
fraud within the Redditch area. We will take all action necessary
to identify suspected fraud and error and when proven ensure
appropriate punishment of those
responsible.
The team is made up of professionally trained staff who use a
range of far-reaching powers including surveillance of suspected
fraudsters and authority to check customer employee details,
investments, savings, bank accounts and utility bills to help
uncover and investigate allegations of benefit fraud received from
members of the public, staff, elected members, other government
departments and from the results of national and local data
matching.
People who commit Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit fraud
are often fraudulently claiming other benefits from the Department
for Work and Pensions so we work closely with their Investigation
Teams to ensure that the full extent of the fraud is uncovered.
