Data Protection and Freedom of Information

Access to Information

Information is one of the most vital, strategic assets any organisation possesses. Regulatory requirements, such as the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Freedom of Information Act 2000, make managing information both a business priority and a legal obligation that demand the Council's attention.  In this section you can find out more about how to access information the Council holds.

You have the right to request access to: -

  • information the Council holds about you (Data Protection Act 1998);
  • information made available to the public via the Council’s Publication Scheme;
  • environmental information (Environmental Information Regulations 2004);
  • any other information held by the Council (Freedom of Information Act 2000).
  • and the Council must supply a copy of the information unless an exemption applies under the relevant legislation.

To find out even more, take a look at our Data Protection and Freedom of Information pages.

Who can I contact for more information?

If you would like to make a request for information and need some assistance, you can visit any of the Council’s One Stop Shops (Town Hall, Winyates, Woodrow or Batchley).  Alternatively you can contact the Policy & Data Protection Officer at the Town Hall either in person, by post, by telephone on 01527 64252 extension 3193, or by e-mail.
