Get to Morton Stanley Park for festival
Festival-goers will be making their way to
Morton Stanley Park this weekend for a chance to hear some of the
latest up and coming performers and take part in a number of
activities.
Morton Stanley Festival is taking place on
Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st August with
more than 30 bands performing over the two days.
Wilson’s Fun Fair will be at the park all
weekend with youngsters also being given the chance to try Parkour,
a sport involving vaulting, rolling, running and climbing over
objects, as part of a special demo on the Sunday.
During the event children will be able to get
crafty by helping to bring old unused cars back to life as sharks.
The activity is for children of all ages but under 12s must be
accompanied by an adult.
This year there will also be more than 50
stalls based in the Community Area, including a Teddy Bear Adoption
Centre and a Teddy Bear Hospital where old teddies can be given a
new lease of life. Money raised at these stalls will go to towards
buying a new wheelchair for a Redditch youngster. The Kettle
Club will also be serving refreshments in a quintessential vintage
style setting throughout the event.
Redditch Community Forum, which is a
partnership between community members, groups and the Council, will
have a display table at the festival to give visitors the chance to
find out more about future projects that the Forum will tackle.
It will also be a chance for the Forum to
launch the 2011 Betty Passingham No Barriers Disabled Access
Awards. Last year’s awards were very popular with a wide range of
nominations being received.
Cllr Derek Taylor, Portfolio Holder for
Leisure, said: “This weekend should be a great day out for all the
family with plenty to get involved in and many local bands to
enjoy.”
