The Betty Passingham No Barriers Awards 2012
This is an award scheme given to local
businesses and organisations or individuals who have provided
exceptional customer service to disabled people.
This idea was developed with Redditch Borough
Council’s Disability and Age Sub group as a similar scheme had been
running in Wyre Forest for two years. The scheme in Wyre Forest has
been very successful and a similar scheme started in Bromsgrove in
2011 which was also very successful.
The Redditch award scheme is
dedicated to the memory of Betty Passingham in
recognition of all the work she did with Redditch communities. A
volunteer panel makes the final decision on the awards. The
panel is made up of Disability Action Redditch, Councillors,
Officers from Redditch Borough Council and Redditch Community
Members.
The 2010 No Barriers Award event was held on 10th August at
Redditch Town Hall. The event was very well attended with guest
speaker Sandy Bannister, Corporate Diversity Manager,
Worcestershire County Council and Ron Passingham.
The 2012 No Barriers Award is now closed for
nominations. The panel will meet on 14th May to
finalise this year's awards. Everyone who was nominated will
be invited to attend the awards ceremony and there will be
certificates for the winners, the runners up and those who were
nominated but didn't get through to one of the higher levels.
As well as their certificates, the winners will also
receive window stickers and the No Barriers Logo with the right to
use this in for their business for the 12 months after the
award.
The presentation will be on 31st May 2012. Details of the
winners will be published here, in the summer edition of Redditch
Matters and in the local press. The event on 31st May will
incorporate a "Tea for Ability" afternoon with home made light
refreshments to raise money for Leonard Cheshire. The programme for
the afternoon can be downloaded here. If you would like to
attend please let us know as there are limited spaces.
