Vacancy for Member of Independent Remuneration Panel
Are you interested in how Local Government works and what
Councillors are paid?
We are seeking applications from people living or working in the
Bromsgrove, Redditch or Wyre Forest areas to fill a vacancy on the
Independent Remuneration Panel (IRP).
The Panel recommends to each District Council in Worcestershire
the level of allowances to be paid to Councillors and other
non-elected people such as co-opted members. If asked, it can
also be the Remuneration Panel for certain allowances for Town and
Parish Councillors. It currently meets about 8 times a year
for 2-3 hours each time.
Although some knowledge of local government would be an
advantage it is not essential as the Panel receives comprehensive
support and advice from Council Officers. More important,
Panel Members should be able to approach issues with an open mind
and ask relevant questions.
You cannot be a member of the Panel if:
- you are a member of any of the local authorities (District or
Parish) in respect of which the Panel makes recommendations
- you would be disqualified from being a Councillor of any local
authority.
The term of office is 4 years from January 2011, which may be
renewed. Travel and subsistence expenses are reimbursed,
including child care if appropriate. An honorarium of £670
pear year is also paid.
