
Action Sport is the Sports Development Unit of Redditch Borough Council. The unit has 5 officers responsible for co-ordinating, promoting and providing sporting opportunities for the local community. The unit was accredited with the Quest UK quality mark for sports and leisure in January 2007 and are due for re-assessment in January 2009. The Sports Development Unit aims to provide access to sports and recreational activities for all sectors of the community, to encourage a more active and healthier lifestyle. The Sports Development Unit also organises and supports national and local coaching programmes, local school festivals and tournaments, help local sports club apply for grants like Awards for All and provide sports lottery advice.
There are also close links with local schools, colleges, Specialist Sports Colleges and local sports clubs to ensure quality and efficient use of resources. Although based at the Abbey Stadium Sports Centre, the unit accesses a wide range of facilities at various locations across the Borough.
These include local sports centres, local schools, local sports clubs, community centres, recreational playing fields, Hewell Road Swimming Pool, Pitcheroak Golf Course and Arrow Valley Countryside Centre.
