The information here is mainly for householders who want to carry out work to their home.

The Council is responsible for ensuring that buildings comply with the building regulations.

Building Regulations are minimum standards laid down by Parliament dealing with, amongst other matters, the design, construction, extension and alteration of buildings. They are intended to ensure buildings are safe places for the community, for example: structurally sound, have proper fire precautions and are free from dampness. The Regulations deal with three main areas:-

Securing the health, safety and welfare of people in or about buildings

Conservation of Fuel and Power

Access to and around new buildings for disabled people

Building Control staff administer and enforce the Building Regulations on behalf of the Council. They are available for expert advice at Redditch Town Hall. There is someone to help you between 9am and 5.30pm (5pm Fridays). Archive Service
An archive service is available for a small charge. We will search our original plans of existing buildings, wherever possible, to assist architects, designers and building owners. Due to the age of some plans, details and accuracy cannot be guaranteed.

Other Services
The Building Control Service is also responsible for street naming and numbering & applications to demolish buildings, dangerous structures and disabled access advice.

Enforcement (residential)
Businesses that provide residential services are required to comply with specific fire safety duties, which may include notifications to, or consultation with, the local authority.

Enforcement (non-residential)
The local authority has responsibility for the supervision and enforcement of fire regulations. They visit workplaces to ensure that the ownwers adopt the fire risk assessment and emergency plans.
