Taxis and Minicabs

- If you are going to be out late, try to arrange a lift or book a taxi or minicab in advance. Ask for the driver’s name, as well as the make and colour of the car. You may also like to ask for a female driver.
- Always use a registered taxi or minicab. NEVER use taxis or minicabs that are not licensed – if you do you are getting into a vehicle with a stranger.
- If you can pre-book your taxi or minicab, make a note of the company you are using and the phone number and leave it with a friend.
- Carry the number of a reliable, registered company with you.
- Only ‘Black cabs’ can be hailed in the street. Any other car cruising the streets looking for customers is illegal and could be dangerous.
- If you are ordering a taxi or minicab from a public place, try no to let people overhear your name and address – anyone could pretend to be your lift.
- Confirm the driver’s details when they arrive – is it the taxi or minicab you ordered?
- Always sit behind the driver in the back seat.
- If you feel uneasy, ask the driver to stop in a busy, well-lit area and get out of the car.
