Help and Support to Live Independently - For Older People and for People with Disabilities
Redditch Borough Council provides a range of services to support people to live independently. They include:
Support to remain in your own home
Lifeline Community Alarm Service -
this provides a 24 hour telephone assistance service to Council tenants, home owners and private tenants who are considered vulnerable. All those who subscribe can contact a control centre at a press of button (or in sheltered housing by pulling a cord), if they have any emergencies or concerns about their safety.

Community Warden Service –
community wardens will visit (daily, weekly or monthly) Council tenants who are considered vulnerable to make sure that they have the help, support and advice they need. They can liaise with other agencies on your behalf, such as health and social services. They can also can give advice on matters such as falls prevention, keeping your home safe and provide information about social activities that are available.

Sheltered Housing -
there is a range of housing available where the Community Warden Service and the Lifeline Community Alarm Service are automatically provided. There are also communal facilities in many of the schemes where events and activities are organised.

Very Sheltered Housing –
people living at St. David’s House and Queen’s Cottages have the benefits of sheltered housing but with the addition of care services being provided if they are needed. There is also a daily luncheon club and activities open to residents and visitors.

the Agency can help home owners and private tenants who are elderly or have a disability to remain independent in their own homes. The service can provide advice on repairs and adaptations to your home and how to seek funding to help pay for the work.

Equipment and Adaptations Service - this service helps Council tenants to have their homes adapted to make sure that they can live as independently as possible.

Shopmobility -
this is a free service for people who experience mobility difficulties and wish to use the town centre shopping facilities. Manual and electric wheelchairs, electric scooters and escorts are available.

Dial-A-Ride -
provides a service for those who have difficulties using public transport. The service operates with specially adapted mini-buses and a number of volunteer car drivers.

Bus permits are available for older people and people with disabilities. This entitles permit holders to reduced travel fares within the Redditch Borough Council boundary and for journeys that start or end within Redditch. Application forms are available at the Town Hall reception.
