Gas Central Heating Maintenance

EVERY YEAR APPROXIMATELY 30 PEOPLE DIE FROM CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING.  NOT HAVING AN ANNUAL GAS SERVICE ENDANGERS YOUR LIFE AND THE LIVES OF YOUR FAMILY.

Information regarding minor heating problems:

Please note it is quite normal for the top of the radiator to be hotter than the bottom. Radiators only need venting if they are cold at the top.  The key vent is located either at the top left or top right of the radiator.  Turn the vent key anti-clockwise for 1 or 2 turns (have a cloth ready), wait for the water to stop hissing then re-tighten.
If you have a combination boiler, check the pressure gauge on the boiler, if it is below number 1, the add pressure through the filling loop.  The filling loop is normally located underneath the boiler.  Turn the knob anti-clockwise to allow water to go into the heating system.  Do this slowly and wait until the pressure gauge increases between 1 or 2.  Then turn clockwise to off position.
