Abandoned Vehicles

Abandoned vehicles being left on the roads are not only dangerous, but they also make our streets look untidy.

You can help us to get these unsightly and potentially dangerous vehicles removed. The Council has a duty to remove abandoned vehicles which have been left within the borough.  This includes parking bays, the road itself, public open spaces and any adjacent Highway verges. We also have a duty to remove abandoned vehicles from private land, once we have permission from the land owner.

Reporting an abandoned vehicle

Upon receiving a report of an abandoned vehicle an officer will visit the vehicle, where necessary a notice is then placed on the vehicle giving any interested persons the opportunity to remove the vehicle.  When the required time period has elapsed the vehicle is then either removed and stored or removed and destroyed.  Enquiries are made via the DVLA and police to ascertain the last registered owner or if the vehicle and whether it has been reported stolen
