There are a number of ways in which you can help care for the countryside and your local environment through practical action.

Voluntary Litter Warden Scheme

Waste Management Services help to promote a voluntary litter warden scheme where we support local residents who wish to volunteer to keep a particular part of Redditch litter free i.e. a local footpath/close/beauty spot by regularly litter picking the area. We provide sacks and a litter picking sticks. Community litter picks can also be arranged. For more information please contact Diane Downing on (01527) 64252 x3337.

Organising a litter pick

If you would like to arrange a litter pick/clean up of your local area the Council will be happy to help by providing you with the equipment you need, health and safety advice and someone to help on the day and take the rubbish away. Please contact us on 01527 534192 and we will make the appropriate arrangements.

Midweek Conservation Volunteers

The above are a group of local people, who take practical action, to protect and improve their local environment.

The group meets once a week, on a Tuesday, throughout the year, to tackle a wide variety of conservation projects in and around Redditch.

No prior experience is necessary: just lots of enthusiasm, a pair of strong shoes or boots and a set of old clothes. Training and tools will be provided.

Volunteering in Green/Open Spaces

There’s a variety of ways to get involved with your local or favourite green space;

Throughout the Borough local people manage green spaces in partnership with the Council through involvement in Friends and forum groups.

Currently there are several active friends groups around the Borough and include; Morton Stanley Park, Wirehill woods, Southcrest Woods, Pitcheroak Woods, Moons Moat and Oakenshaw Spinney, their meetings are advertised locally and everyone is free to attend.

Throughout the year we hold regular consultation events and drop in sessions at local events, the Morton Stanley Park Family Fun Day provides a great opportunity for our customers to talk to staff, take a look at the varied machinery and equipment used in day to day operations and to find out more about getting involved.

In addition, throughout the year staff hold educational walks and rambles throughout the Borough, friends groups and individuals play an active part in keeping spaces clean and tidy

Your involvement helps us to maintain and improve green spaces for all; your contribution can be passive or active depending on health and well being and your available free time.

We have a weekly conservation project that meets on a Tuesday and is active throughout the Borough, undertaking a variety of conservation tasks
