Redditch Sports Partnership Awards 2007

The Annual Sports Partnership Awards, a joint venture between the Redditch School Sport Partnership and Action Sport, celebrates the achievements of sporting starts in the town. Athletes, coaches, clubs, volunteers and teachers who have dedicated time and effort to develop sport in local clubs or schools were recognised at the ceremony held at Redditch Town Hall on December 3rd 2007. Nominations were forwarded and winners selected by representatives from Action Sport and the School Sports Partnership. In the school awards, Walkwood Middle school’s year 6 football team picked up junior team of the year winning their district and county titles while the senior team was picked up by Kingsley College girls under 16’s Basketball team who progressed to the last 8 in the country beating Yorkshire in the last 16 of the Nationals.

Danny Oscroft also of Kingsley College collected Most Improved Pupil award. Following his nomination last year he has continued to progress in GCSE PE and has 100% attendance to extra curricular clubs. Arrow Vale’s Emma Parsons was awarded Sports Leader of the Year for her commitment to volunteering and leadership both within and out of the school environment.

Individual performer of the year went to Megan Walsh of St Bedes Middle School who represents the school in every school team as well as training with the England under 15 Girls football squad. Woodrush High School Teacher Linda Price picked up School Sports Co-ordinator of the year. Her commitment of out of hours sport is second to non, regularly organising tournaments and festivals for schools in her pyramid. Kirsty Herbert of Tardebigge 1st School was awarded First School Link Teacher of the Year for her work in developing pupil led purposeful play programme and involvement in the Gifted and Talented camp at Arrow Vale.

In the community awards, Jordan Clarke from St Augustines High School was awarded Junior Sports Personality of the Year for his involvement in numerous sports clubs, including Kingfisher Colts F.C. and Redditch Cricket Club and the Senior Award was awarded to Clifton Elcock who runs various martial arts classes across the town as well as work in schools re-engaging pupils who have dropped out of schools sport.

In the Senior and Junior club of the Year awards the Redditch Company of archers and Redditch Revolution respectively picked up the awards. Two members of the archery club regularly represent Great Britain. The club retained the club trophy at the British Target Championships. Ten club members have represented Worcestershire in 2007. The Redditch Revolutions majorettes competed at national finals with great success. A series of 1st and 2nd place finishes for individual and team events capped off a successful year. Bromsgrove and Redditch Athletic Club’s Rita Brownlie was awarded Coach of the year due to her passion and hard work in helping and nurturing the clubs young athletes. Volunteer of the year, Robert Haw, worked selflessly for the benefit of Youth Afloat arranging working hours around voluntary commitments. He is a positive role model for many of the disadvantaged young people.

The final two awards were awarded for Outstanding Contribution to both Club and School. Matt Hirons, the Community Club Development Officer for Redditch Borough Council works tirelessly engaging young people and organising activities for the benefit of the local community and the Redditch Cricket, Hockey, Rugby and Squash Club. The school award was given to Lesley Brown of Meadow Green Primary School. All pupils at her school experience a wide range of activities within the PE Curriculum. Pupils always attend sporting events and she has shown huge commitment to develop PE at both the school and district level.

All winners will be forwarded to the county awards to be held in Malvern on the 6th March 2008.
