Canvass for the Register of Electors 2008/09

Registration forms should by now have been issued to every household in the Borough for this year’s canvass ..
Please note that
- The Canvass happens every year at this time.
- People must respond every year (to ensure the information is always up to date) by law.
- For Data Protection and other legal reasons, information provided to other Council Services, for example for Council Tax, does not automatically trigger updates to the Register of Electors.
- People can only confirm existing entries by freephone or internet – but they must use the contact number / address at the top of the form – to do this people also need to have modern phones with a star button.
- If there are any changes (– additions / deletions / name changes / corrections, etc.): signed paper copies must be sent back to us here at the Town Hall.
- We will automatically chase up non responders over the next few weeks, including the use of personal canvassers, but will eventually delete any second year non-responders.
- The Audit Commission are about to trigger anti-fraud checks for people who only register a single name to support their claim for single-occupancy discount for Council Tax.
- People who are not registered may find that, as well as not being able to vote, they may have difficulties obtaining credit.
- Most Frequently-Asked Questions can be answered by reference to details on the form
