You may not know that Redditch was once the world centre of needle manufacture. Forge Mill opened as a museum celebrating the town’s manufacturing history twenty years ago, aiming to provide a showcase and work space for textile enthusiasts. We exhibit contemporary textile art, run workshops and, for many years now, we have also run a schools textile competition.
A local educational charity, the Charles Henry Foyle Trust, promotes arts in the area and sponsors us to run a prestigious national competition for graduating textile students. As a result, for several months of the year outstanding contemporary textile work can be seen at the museum.
The Charles Henry Foyle Trust now also sponsors the prizes for the schools competition. Our intention is to provide an opportunity for Worcestershire schools to celebrate their pupils’ creativity and exhibit their work in an adult context. We ask the Charles Henry Foyle Trust to present the prizes on the same evening as the adult prize- giving ceremony.
Our aim is to be inclusive; we welcome work from those of all abilities, work done as part of the curriculum, and work done in lunch time or after school clubs. We have a wonderful exhibition every year and would be delighted to receive entries from Worcestershire schools who have never taken part before.
