Capital Schemes

Climate Change

In addition to fuel and waste strategies, the Council encourages where possible, every means of reducing the effects of climate change by means of suitably designed drainage systems that help to reduce peak run-off and assist in restoration of the aquifer. Unfortunately, due to the predominantly heavy nature of sub-soils within the Redditch area, soak away systems are only of a limited benefit and more innovative solutions are required, for further information:

e-mail:clive.wilson@redditchbc.gov.uk
Telephone: 01527 64252

Dangerous and Uneven Highways and Footpaths

The Council has a responsibility for the maintenance of highways, footpaths and car parking areas within the Borough. (These are areas that are not adopted by Worcestershire County Council). These are inspected on a regular basis. However, if you do locate an area which is in need of attention:

Drainage Complaints

The Council is only responsible for a limited amount of piped drainage assets, principally associated with its Housing functions. To assist in processing complaints quickly and effectively, all complaints should at first be directed either to Asset Maintenance or Environmental Health Teams. They have access to the relevant records enabling responsibilities to be identified with the minimum of delay. Where necessary,  these teams have established contacts with both Severn Trent Water Ltd and the Environment Agency, should the need arise:

e-mail: clive.wilson@redditchbc.gov.uk
Telephone:01527 64252 Ext 3127 or 3370

Engineering and Technical Advice

The former Technical Services Section is now incorporated within Asset Maintenance. Engineering and Technical advice is provided to all other Services within the Council. However, where at all possible, we are also pleased to provide advice to the general public on any Engineering or Technical matters.

e-mail: clive.wilson@redditchbc.gov.uk
Telephone: 01527 64252

Land Drainage

The Council, acting as Local Drainage Authority under the Land Drainage Act 1991, provides a limited inspection and cleansing service throughout the Borough for all ordinary watercourses. In addition, where the Council is the riparian landowner, more extensive clearance and occasionally physical works are undertaken to alleviate flood risk and to ensure a healthy and balanced water environment. Other private land owners, are actively encouraged to maintain their assets to an equivalent standard. Development Control issues are processed where they impact upon the local drainage networks, for further information:

e-mail: clive.wilson@redditchbc.gov.uk
Telephone 01527 64252

Pollution Control

This Council works closely with the Environment Agency in a number of ways to prevent or control pollution. This is done by prompt reporting of incidents, ensuring that discharges of pollutants into watercourses are quickly and efficiently dealt with. If you are aware of a pollution incident please immediately contact the Environment Agency or for further information:

Street Name Plates

Street naming and numbering is a Statutory Function. The relevant powers for Local Authorities are contained within Sections 64 and 65 of the Towns Improvement Clauses Act 1847, and Sections 17, 18 and 19 of the Public Health Act 1925. This legislation requires the Local Authority to prepare street naming and numbering schemes and to maintain a good standard of street name plates. Both are essential for the efficient functioning of postal and emergency services as well as for the convenience and safety of the general public.

If you wish to report a street name plate that is missing, damaged or vandalised, please fill our online inquiry reporting form
