Real Nappies for Happy Babies
If Henry VIII had been put in disposable nappies as a child they would still be sitting in a landfill site today - Now that would make an interesting edition of Time Team!
Real Nappies of today are easier than you think.
THEY SAVE YOU MONEY
You could save over £400 a year by using real nappies (based on 5020 nappy changes over 2 years). This cost is based on all accessories, washing agents, energy, and wear and tear on the washing machine).
In Herefordshire and Worcestershire we throw away 14,000 tonnes of nappies a year, costing almost half a million pounds to dispose of. We all pay for this through our council tax.
REAL NAPPIES ARE EASY AND COMFORTABLE
There's no scratchy paper or plastic to rub your baby's skin.
New nappies use Velcro and poppers and are shaped, so no more folding and fumbling with safety pins.
Washing at home does not mean boiling, a 60C wash is sufficient.
They keep babies leak free with the help of waterproof nappy covers which are breathable and comfortable.
Easy to use biodegradable nappy liners allow waste to be flushed down the toilet.
REAL NAPPIES ARE SAFE
Chemicals in disposable nappies used for the stay dry layer are unregulated and their long-term effects are not known. The natural fibre in Terry Nappies allow the skin to breathe, to absorb and ensures that the skin or the baby does not over heat.
THEY ARE FRIENDLY TO THE ENVIRONMENT
Real Nappies use less energy, resources, water and chemicals in their manufacture and use. Disposables contain paper pulp, plastics, absorbent, perfumes, gel granules and chemical additives in the plastics. Disposables end up in landfill where some parts can take up to 500 years to decompose and the space needed to bury waste is running out.
