Redditch’s first twinning link dates from 1956, since which time it has proved very popular with Redditch and district residents, as witnessed by the large active membership of the Friends of Auxerre.

The highlight of each year is the visit to or from Auxerre which takes place at the end of May/ beginning of June. In 2006. the link celebrated its Golden Anniversary.

Auxerre is in Burgundy (Department of L’Yonne), approximately 100 miles south east of Paris.

This link continues to gain strength and trips and exchanges are being organised on an  increasingly regular basis. However, owing to the relative difficulties of  maintaining close ties, fruitful connections with Tanzanian Students at Birmingham University and Selly Oak Colleges have been developed and regular events with a Tanzanian focus, including an annual national seminar, are being organised.

Mtwara is a sea port in southern Tanzania (East Africa) near the border with Mozambique.
