Housing Benefit Landlord Information

Housing Benefit is help to pay rent.

Privately Rent Properties

From the 7th April 2008 most new claims for Housing Benefit will be processed under  the Local Housing Benefit scheme.  

Question and answers for Landlords

Payments of Local Housing Allowance

Must payments of Local Housing Allowance will be paid 4 weekly in arrears to the tenant.  However we can pay Local Housing Allowance to the landlord if we decide a tenant is vulnerable

Existing Housing Benefit customers

Existing Housing Benefit customers and some new customers will continue on the previous scheme for the

  • assessing eligible rent
  • choosing to have their entitlement paid to their Landlord

Once they change address or their claim ends for at least one week and they make a new claim they move to the Local Housing Allowance scheme.
