This document is the first Corporate Equalities Scheme which the County Council has produced. It contains important information about the work the Council will be doing to promote equality of access to services and opportunities and to eliminate unlawful discrimination relating to:
Age, Disability, Gender, Marital Status, Race or Colour, Nationality, Religion or Belief, Culture and Sexual Orientation.
This is an overarching Scheme which applies to all equality and diversity areas. There is already a Race Equality Scheme in place. A Scheme covering Disability will be in place by the end of 2006 and another addressing Gender in 2007.
In this document we explain what we will do to ensure that equality and diversity are fundamental to everything we do, how we will consult our customers and how we will monitor our progress.
Details of equalities legislation and copies of relevant council policies are included within the full Corporate Equalities Scheme. The Council is a large employer and believes that it should be taking the lead in setting high standards in promoting equality of opportunity and respect for diversity in our County.

Last year, between July and September the Council held three events within the local
community: at Redditch, Worcester and Kidderminster.
We wanted to ask you what you thought
about Race Equality and what we could do to improve your quality of life within Worcestershire.
In total over 120 people from our diverse minority communities attended the three events and views were expressed on everything from dealing with racial harrasment to access to information, the image of the Council to employment opportunities and much more!
We have now produced a report bringing together all those comments and also identifying what we intend to do in response

Worcestershire County Council has produced it's second Race Equality Scheme 2005-2008. The Scheme builds on the progress we have made over the last three years and includes our development since 2002. In the Scheme we describe the steps the Council will take over the next three years to make Race Equality central to the way we work by putting it at the centre of policy, service delivery and employment practice. During the life of this Scheme we will concentrate on improving the quality of life for our black and minority ethnic communities. Race Equality Scheme 2005-2008 |
