Unlocking the Past

Visit our special feature Unlocking The Past. Funded by the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund, via English Heritage.

This project has created internet resources and hosted events which tell the story of human occupation in Worcestershire from prehistoric times onwards. There is an e-gallery, reviews of events and school teaching resources.

An Iron Age Settlement site at Blackstone.

WHEAS re-visits excavations carried out in the 1970s at Blackstone, near Bewdley in North Worcestershire.

In 1957 a fascinating Iron Age Settlement was discovered by aerial photography, in the form of a double-ditched promontory enclosure overlooking the River Severn at Blackstone, near Bewdley.

River Severn Bankside Survey

Another project made possible by the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund.

In 2007-8 a survey of archaeological remains along the Severn's banks, from Worcester to Tewkesbury, revealed details of industry and trade from the late prehistoric period onwards. Read on This is a link to a PDF file. (199.81 KB)
