Gypsy Team Service Provision

The County Council’s Gypsy Service currently: |
- Manages
9 residential sites accommodating 121 Gypsy families.
- Carries out welfare assessments on all unauthorised encampments set up on County
Council land (e.g. Highway verge).
- Provides relevant liaison with local residents, local businesses, parish councils,
district councils, local members, lawyers, the police, social services, education and housing authorities.
- Promotes understanding between all parties.
- Provides expert advice on issues such as preventing unauthorised encampments.
- Serves as the secretariat and chair for the Joint Policy Towards Unauthorised Encampments
partnership subscribed to by Worcestershire's six District Councils and the Police Authority. (Joint
Policy Towards Travellers)
Team Status
- The Gypsy Service is generally highly regarded by Gypsies, Travellers, the
settled community, the police, agencies and members of the business community affected by Gypsy and
Traveller issues.
- The Gypsy Service won the Local Government national “Top Team” award in 1999.
- The Gypsy Service Manager is chair of the National Association of Gypsy and Traveller
Officers and is recognised nationally as an authority on Gypsy and Traveller issues.
