The Real Meals Cookbook

Cooking is a skill everyone should have and once mastered, it's quick, easy, fun and vital to fighting obesity in young people. Once they've mastered the basic dishes, they can keep cooking for life.

The 'Real Meals' cookbook, endorsed by top chef Phil Vickery, contains 32 classic recipes and sauces.  The public nominated for inclusion the basic dishes every child should learn how to cook.  The recipes, developed by the British Nutrition Foundation, follows the Let's Get Cooking consultation in January this year, when 250 members nominated dishes which all children should learn.  We want all Year 7 pupils to receive a free copy of Real Meals.  It is available to order from Prolog (the Department's publication centre) by telephone on 0845 60 222 60 or by e-mail to dcsf@prolog.uk.com.  Visit the Licence to Cook website for basic cooking skills and safety measures.
