My Services

Welcome to the SEN Services Home Page

Priorities 5 and 8 of Worcestershire’s Children and Young People’s Plan for 2008 – 2011 are all about young people achieving their potential :

Priority 5 :   Raise the achievement of all children and young people

Priority 8:    Ensure that all young people are able to access appropriate education, employment and training opportunities and make progress

Worcestershire has a range of services dedicated to achieving these and is committed to providing positive outcomes for all its children, including those with Additional Needs. The Additional Needs Service offers support through two strands -

Who are we/ What is our role within Children’s Services?

SEN Services carry out the statutory elements of the SEN process in line with the SEN Code of Practice, which involves:

  • Co-ordination and management of statutory assessments of children's special educational needs, and writing of statements of SEN
  • Representing the LA at SEN and Disability Tribunals
  • Monitoring of provision for children with statements of SEN in maintained schools and within the independent and non-maintained sectors.
  • Monitoring of provision for “Out-county” children with statements of SEN in maintained schools and within the independent and non-maintained sectors.

Another aspect of the team’s work is the management and development of special educational needs provision through involvement in:

  • Admissions to special schools, units and mainstream schools for children with SEN.
  • Liaison with Worcestershire Health Authority, Trusts, Social Care and the voluntary sector.

SEN Services work closely with other teams within Children’s Services, including Educational Psychology, Behaviour Support, Education Welfare, ISL, Additional Learning Needs, Social Care teams, Worcestershire Specialist Children’s Service, Portage, Early Years.

They also work closely with Parent Partnership (see website link) on the publication of guidance for parents on many aspects of SEN.
