Elmley Castle Picnic Place
The 11th century castle, which stood well above the village, has long since gone, though you can still see the remains on an invigorating walk up Bredon Hill. That's not all you'll see from the hill. You can't beat the feeling, looking down from the old Roman earthworks at hamlets huddled together, the River Avon winding it's way across your scene and the Malvern Hills forming a dramatic backdrop. It can be particularly crisp and exhilarating on a bright winter's day.
Elmely Castle village itself has status beyond its size. The long main tree-lined street has a stream running down one side, and an array of attractive houses, including thatched timber framed cottages. The church warrants a visit, with the splendid sundial in the churchyard. With a play area and sports field adjacent to the picnic place, there are attractions here for all tastes and ages.
