Policy and Practice

Working Practices guide the work of the Countryside Service officers in carrying out their duties. Whilst most public rights of way problems are unique and have to be treated on an individual basis these working practices are to ensure that as far as possible problems on the public rights of way network are resolved in a consistent and logical manner which is fair to those with an interest in the land, local residents and members of the public wishing to use the public rights of way.

Working practices are procedures for officers to follow in carrying out their duties to resolve the problems on the public rights of way and most public rights of way matters should be handled in accordance with this guidance. The process of writing and updating these documents is a continuous one but all working practices that are in place are available for members of the public to read on this website. Over the next few months and beyond, more working practices and policies will be added to this site. Working practices should, of course, support County Council policies. More...
